Glasgow Airport is the busiest of Scotland's three main international airports. It has over 86,000 air transport movements, which serve over 8.1 million passengers a year. The airport has 1 terminal and 2 runways with over 40 airlines flying to approximately 80 destinations.
By car, from the city centre you take the M8 out to the west of the city towards Paisley and then turn off at Junction 28, about a 20-minute drive. If travelling from Edinburgh, you take the M8 through Glasgow to Junction 28. Travelling from the South you take the M6 North from Birmingham, then take the M74 into Glasgow to Junction 4 and then turn onto the M8 towards the west. The check in desk is located in the middle of the ground floor concourse. Your travel documents will tell you when the latest time you can check in for your flight is, but it is highly recommended that you do not wait for that time. Try to arrive at the airport with plenty of time to check in so you will have time to just relax and enjoy the airport before your flight.
The information desks are located in the arrivals and departure hall where, if you have any problems, help is available. Within the airport, there are many services available. Banks and Bureau de change are available, also ATMs, telephones and postal facilities.
Food halls are available located before and after security where a wide range of restaurants, cafés, snacks, pubs and bars are on offer. Shopping within the airport will save you a lot of money, as it is tax/duty free. Shops available are a pharmacy, sportswear shop, music store, gift shops, and newsagents where you can quickly pick up that last minute thing that you need to purchase.
There are also other facilities available, such as baby care. For your young children there is a play area located on the first floor main concourse, the international departures lounge and gate 50 in the international pier. Other facilities such as a travel agency, a video games area, a photo booth and many more are also available. There is a left luggage service available located outside the arrivals hall.
Glasgow airport provide for the disabled. There are parking spaces in the car parks for the disabled and lifts, which transfer you to other levels. Telephones are provided on site if any help is needed and there are disabled toilets. A number of airport staff at the airports information desk are trained to use sign language, available on request. Induction loops are fitted in many areas of the terminal and satellites and are identified by the sympathetic ear sign.
