Newcastle International Airport is situated 5 miles/8 kms North West of Newcastle, close to the village of Ponteland. It is close to the A1 trunk road in which gives quick and easy access to Newcastle City, Tyneside, the Scottish Borders and indeed Edinburgh, which is just over a two-hour drive away.
To get to the airport by car, the A1 connects with the A696 which leads directly to the airport. The access road to the airport is signposted from the A1 Newcastle to Edinburgh road. The check in desk is located on the ground floor of the terminal next to the public phones. Your travel documents will tell you when the latest time you can check in for your flight is but it is highly recommended that you do not wait for that time. Try to arrive at the airport with plenty of time to check in so you will have time to just relax and enjoy the airport before your flight.
Within the airport, there are many services available. Banks and Bureau De Change are located on the ground floor which operate at these times: Monday-Friday, 0600-1600 Saturday 0800-1500 and Sunday 0900-1600. Two ATM machines are available which are located on the ground floor. The information desk is located next to the newsagents on the ground floor of the terminal where if you have any problems, help is available.
Food halls are located on the ground floor where a wide range of restaurants, cafés, pubs and bars are on offer. Shopping within the airport will save you a lot of money, as it is tax/duty free. Shops available include a pharmacy, a sportswear shop, a leather goods shop, a music store, gift shops, and newsagents where you can quickly pick up that last minute things which you need to purchase.
There are also other facilities are also available such as Baby Care, located on all floors and in the duty free lounge. For your young children under the age of 7 years there is an unsupervised play area. A nail care service is available for you to pamper yourself before your flight and also shoeshine service on the ground floor.
Newcastle airport provide for the disabled. Slow mode on the revolving doors at the entrance of the terminal is used for wheelchair users. In the short term car park there are disabled car parking spaces provided directly in front of the terminal. Telephones are provided on site if any help is needed. Alarm buttons are available in the disabled toilets located on the ground floor. A number of airport staff are trained to use sign language and are available on request. Wheelchairs and specialist vehicles for access to the aircraft are also available on request.
