Location Of British Columbia
British Columbia is Canada’s most westerly province, bordered
to the south by the USA, to the east by Alberta, to the north by the
Northwest and Yukon Territories, and to the west by the Pacific Ocean
and the & #8216;Alaskan Panhandle’. It is mainly covered
by virgin forests and encompasses the towering Rocky Mountains, vast
expanses of semi-arid sagebrush, lush pastures on Vancouver Island’s
east coast, farmland in the Fraser River delta, and Fruitland in the
Okanagan Valley.
Airports
Vancouver airport is 15km or 9 miles south-west of the city. It is
served by airlines from the USA, Europe and the Far East. The journey
to the city centre takes about 25 minutes.
The other major airports are Victoria, Prince Rupert, Prince George, Fort St. John, Kamloops, Kelowna, Castlegar, Cranbrook and Quesnel.
Language
Although Canada is officially bilingual (English and French), English
is more commonly spoken in British Columbia.
Places To Go
Major cities and towns have top-class restaurants, nightclubs and bars,
sometimes in pub style. Vancouver has an active theatre life. Better
nightspots are often to be found in hotels.
Vancouver is a shoppers’ paradise. Robson Street offers fashion boutiques, souvenir shops and speciality shops. Yaletown is the shopping ground of Vancouver’s young and aspirational, with designer fashions, art galleries and trendy home decor shops. Other popular areas include Gastown, Granville Island and Chinatown.
