Location Of Germany
Germany shares frontiers with Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark,
France, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland. The
northwest of the country has a coastline on the North Sea, while
the Baltic coastline in the northeast stretches from the Danish to
the Polish border. The landscape is amazingly varied, with the Rhine,
Bavaria and the Black Forest being probably the three most famous
features of western Germany.
Airports
Berlin-Tegel is located 5 miles northwest of the city and takes about
20 minutes to get to. Buses go to the city every 5-10 minutes. Berlin-Schönefeld
is 12 miles southeast of the city and takes about an hour to get
to. The Airport train departs for the city centre every 30 minutes.
Taxi service is available to the city 24 hours. The mainline railway
station is a ten minute walk from the airport, and from here connections
to major German cities and to Basle, Budapest, Prague and Vienna
are possible.
Berlin-Tempelhof is 4 miles southeast of the city centre and takes 20 minutes to get to. Buses depart every ten minutes to the city.
Language
German is the official language. English is widely spoken and French
is also spoken, Danish is spoken by the Danish minority and taught
in schools. Regional dialects often differ largely from standard
German.
Places To Go:
The scenery of Germany is enormously varied, ranging from sandy beaches
to towering mountains, forests, lakes, medieval villages and some
of Europe’s greatest cities. Every area has its distinct regional
foods, and it offers a huge choice of local wines and beers.
Situated at the crossroads of Europe, Germany offers so much for the tourist.
Bavaria is the most popular tourist destination for both Germans and overseas visitors alike.
