PARKING SAFETY TIPS
Before You Park
- Look for suspicious people when you enter a parking area.
- Put valuables and packages in the boot or out of sight before arriving
at the parking facility.
- Drive with your car doors locked and windows closed. One in five
stolen cars were left unlocked with the keys in the ignition.
- Keep your wallet or purse out of view while driving. Do not leave
them on the seat next to you.
- If you have the option, choose a parking spot that is well lit.
- Park your car in well-lit areas near an exit or busy location.
After You Park
- Do not leave any valuables where they can be seen from outside
the car.
- Walk with a confident and positive attitude
When Returning To Your Car
- If possible, return to your car with an escort or in a group.
- Have you keys in hand so you don't have to linger before entering
your car. Keys can also serve as a weapon against an attacker.
- Look around and inside your car before you unlock the door and
get in.
- Once you enter you car don't delay, start the car and leave.
Other Safety Advice
- Lock bikes and mopeds to bike racks with hardened-alloy locks and
chains or U-shaped locks.
- Avoid shortcuts and dark, isolated areas.
- If you think you are being followed drive to a public place or
police station.
- Never roll down your window all the way to talk to a stranger.
